Gemini vs. GPT-4 vs. Grok

I have been using all three, and if you read my other article about Gemini, you know I am over Google products. Google really messed up the release of Gemini, and frankly, at this point, I use Grok most, CHAT GPT-4 second most, and in a very distant third place would be Gemini; it just is not for me. At this time, I would say my go-to AI is Grok. It seems to be the most “intelligent,” and the writing style most fits with my style, so it is easy to use and work with. As a matter of fact, this blog post is partly written with the help of Grok because it is more conversational.

Google Gemini, Grok, and ChatGPT are powerful AI models. All of the big companies are racing to create artificial intelligence tools, which is why NVIDIA stock is going hyperbolic. Each AI has unique features and capabilities, and understanding their differences can help you decide which is best for your needs. Let’s dive into the critical aspects of each. I have a personal favorite, and it is based on my use case. Use case might dictate which is best for you as well.

Google Gemini

Google Gemini is a multimodal AI model that can process and understand various data types, including text, images, videos, and audio. This versatility allows it to perform complex tasks across multiple fields, such as math, physics, and more. Additionally, Gemini is designed to be scalable, making it suitable for a wide range of devices and platforms. I have not tested this; I have only used these tools in a web browser on my desktop computer. I am not writing or coding on a phone or tablet, so I am not sure I will ever really interact with any of these AI tools in that way.

Between the reaction to the launch of Gemini and what people are saying, plus my personal negative translation experience, I am not impressed with Gemini. I don’t think it will become the leading AI tool. There is a reason that so many users prefer ChatGPT or Grok over Gemini.

I found this great video a great help. This guy tests a lot of features. You got to watch this guy’s test. The results are solid.

These tools have been tested rigorously for their writing, reasoning, humor, vision, coding, and music-generation performance. Watch the YouTube video above for a comprehensive Gemini vs. GPT-4 vs. Grok AI comparison by Wes Roth.

Grok

Grok is a conversational, funny, and, in my opinion, the most useful AI. Elon Musk’s X AI team developed this AI chatbot. It is currently only available if you are a paying X Premium member, which costs $16 a month. It has impressive benchmarks, 63.2% on the HumanEval coding task and 73% on MMLU. Grok is trained using a custom training and inference stack based on Kubernetes, Rust, and JAX, which allows it to access real-time information from the internet. I love this feature because it can help you write, translate, and find the correct answers if you have a programming or tech problem.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a widely used generative AI chatbot developed by OpenAI. It has been used to rewrite performance reviews, summarize papers, and turn direct quotes into prose, saving users time and effort. I have found it to be accurate. ChatGPT’s versatility allows it to be used for various purposes, such as writing reviews, generating content, and providing guidance on employee feedback and management. My wife even has used it to write offer letters to employees.

Writing performance

When it comes to writing, I think Grok is best; I found that it is the most useful if writing a blog or a tweet. I have also used it to beef up product descriptions for my wife’s store. That said, ChatGPT takes the second spot. Gemini Pro is not far behind. Writing effectively is crucial for AI, as it reflects the machine’s understanding of human language and its nuances. Really, all of these tools are pretty well balanced, but personal preference comes into play when evaluating their writing style.

Reasoning performance

Reasoning is another critical aspect of AI performance, and all three models have shown impressive abilities in this area. They can participate in complex conversations and tackle problems with a level of sophistication that might surprise many. However, each AI has a unique way of approaching abstract thinking, accentuating the differences. When having a chat with Grok, humor is used to keep things light and funny.

AI personality

When it comes to humor, an area that has traditionally been challenging for AI, Grok stands out. Its understanding of human idiosyncrasies allows it to engage in humorous, surprisingly natural exchanges. I greatly appreciate this some of the time. When I need something more serious, I will move over to ChatGPT.

AI vision

You will have to watch the video for AI vision tests. This is not something I have used often. The other day, I looked up an image of a duck stuffed animal that someone sent to me. I was able to find it for sale pretty quickly.

Coding abilities

I have used this often. All of them have coding abilities. This is an area of great potential for AI in software development. ChatGPT and Gemini Pro have strong coding skills, but ChatGPT comes out on top of this test, producing code that is generally more efficient and contains fewer errors.

Musicality and composing skills

This is not something I use. You will have to watch the video to get a sense of their ability.

My favorite is Grok

Grok is an AI model designed with a unique personality and purpose, whose name is inspired by the book “Stranger in a Strange Land” and the design by “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as it is “intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask”. I recently reread the the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and loved it… The robot is so funny. Grok provides answers to a wide array of questions, coupled with a touch of humor and a rebellious streak. I also like that it is not WOKE. This approach is a departure from Google’s Gemini which is ultra woke and frankly does not prioritize purely factual responses.

Grok’s standout feature is its real-time knowledge capability, which is enabled by the platform. This gives it a distinct edge, as it can access and process current information, a feature not commonly found in standard AI models. Furthermore, Grok is designed to tackle “spicy” questions, those that are usually sidestepped by conventional AI systems, potentially making it a more versatile and engaging tool for users seeking unconventional or candid responses.

Despite its innovative features, Grok is in its early beta phase, having undergone only two months of training. While Grok shows promise, users should anticipate ongoing development and improvements. The xAI team emphasizes that user feedback will play a crucial role in shaping Grok’s evolution, highlighting their commitment to creating AI tools that are beneficial and accessible to a diverse range of users.

My conclusion

Each of these is a tool in the toolbox; Grok is my go-to because of its writing style, humor, and problem-solving skills. ChatGPT is in second place because it is versatile and reliable. Gemini is last and has been really making news for its unprecedented WOKE slant. That said it is good at writing and creative.

Again the best AI model for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Grok provides a conversational AI chatbot with humor and disruption, ChatGPT delivers accurate and meaningful assessments with versatility and wide use and Google Gemini offers a multimodal model that is leaning very woke.
